The causes and effects of each wave are outlined, followed by a resounding call for action at all levels of global society. The paper concludes with a practical section outlining the required multi-level response to the situation, combining systemic initiatives with personal action. It was launched on 4th June (the eve of the United Nations World Environment Day) during a Symposium on Climate Change held in University College London, sponsored by the Ecologist magazine and the Scientific and Medical Network. It was released for e-mail cascade and web-based circulation in preparation for the G8 Leaders Meeting held in July, 2005.
