The paper was presented in seminar to the consultancy training group of the Tavistock Leicester Conference in March 1979. It was subsequently published in Energy and Character, the journal of Bio-energetic Research, Vol.13, No. 2, August 1992. Some familiarity with the writings of W.R. Bion is assumed.
