OPUS Conference 1985: Process and Reflections

Abstract

The Organisation for the Promoting of the Understanding of Society convened its first public conference in September 1985 using a mode of experiential learning, focused around the role of citizenship. The first part of this paper is an account of the process and content of that working conference from the perspective of one particular participant. The account is published with the encouragement of the OPUS staff, who see some of the raw material provided as an important complement to their own conference report. An appendix to the account treats some important theoretical and methodological questions quite fundamental to the use of this kind of experiential learning in the exploration of social systems behaviour.
